Chapter Seven

Darwa

When we reach the orc settlement, Eliza’s eyes widen in amazement. Our compound is made of an array of rustic cabins, each one with its own set of unique features. Hopefully, the brightly colored curtains seen through every window make Eliza feel welcome in our community.

“When you’re ready, Keff and I will show you around and introduce you. We want you to be happy here.” I keep my arm around her waist, hoping it reassures her.

Our cabin is nestled at the back of the settlement, away from most of the hustle and bustle. It has a cozy log exterior, the porch painted a mossy green hue. Inside are three rooms filled with wooden furniture built for comfort. A large stone fireplace at one end of the cabin provides a cozy atmosphere to curl up in front of on cold nights, while the other end boasts a kitchen. At the back are two bedrooms, one large and one small that we don’t use except to store supplies.

Eliza’s face is stretched with a big smile.

“Does it feel like you could live here, pet? Like it could be your home?”

“With my two Sirs. Yes. My heart is filled with gratitude.”

We show her to the bedroom in our cabin. “This is where we’ll sleep,” I tell her as Keff wordlessly shoves our two beds together. She seemed to enjoy snuggling between us last night. I picture our future here together, sharing meals in the kitchen and our nights in the quilt-covered bed.

“When we’re at home, you will not wear clothes.” Keff decrees it as though it’s the most normal thing in the world.

While Eliza is still making sense of what he said, he urges, “Take off your clothes, pet.”

If I’m not mistaken, she’s eager as she steps out of her dress. I almost feel guilty when I see she has no panties. They’re in my pocket because I stole them from her last night. I shouldn’t have taken them, but they smell so damn good.

“Our neighbor, Hannah, cooks for us on days we return late from our travels. I’ll fetch it,” I tell her.

When I return, Keff and Eliza are talking as though they’re old friends. He can be harsh with her, but she seems to crave his approval. I nod to myself, feeling certain this will all work out.

I set out a spread of Hannah’s simple dishes: sautéed vegetables, roasted potatoes, and seared pork chops. They smell heavenly, especially the fragrant herbs she added to enhance the flavor.

As Keff and I sit down at the wooden kitchen island for our meal, I watch Eliza smile and fill our plates as if we’ve lived together for years. This is the best thing that ever happened to my brother and me. Somehow, I think it’s been a boon to Eliza, too.

We only have two stools, so I pat my lap and enjoy the thrill of her wide smile as she hurries to obey.

After we eat, Keff serves us each a piece of homemade berry cobbler that Hannah made.
